Introduction

The Institute for Orthopaedics sponsored the recently concluded Orthopaedic Manufacturing & Technology Exposition and Conference (OMTEC) on June 20-21, 2007 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois.

OMTEC is a targeted learning experience for industry professionals focused on optimizing supply chain performance and profitability, minimizing product development cycle times, and maximizing speed to market.

Educational sessions were focused on topics of interest to R&D personnel responsible for product design and development and for Operations personnel responsible for manufacturing and supply chain management.

Two Special Addresses were made by singularly-qualified speakers: Shirley Engelhardt, President of Knowledge Enterprises, addressed The Future of Orthopaedics and John Engelhardt, CEO, explored The Future of Orthopaedic Technology.

Two Keynote Presentations set the tone for the event—an opening address by John P. Collier, Ph.D. Myron Tribus Professor of Engineering Innovation and Senior Lecturer at Dartmouth College, Thayer School of Engineering; and, a closing address by Martin BrowningCo-Founder and President of EduQuest, Inc., a provider of regulatory consulting, auditing, and training services to the global pharmaceutical, biologics, and medical device industries.

More than 100 top industry suppliers (45 exhibiting for the first time) were on hand to showcase their latest product and service offerings, technologies and solutions.
