for new Medical Technology organization
Sandvik continues to strengthen its medical technology organization, Sandvik MedTech, through the creation of a Board that includes industry experts and advisors David Fitzgerald, Gunnar Walstam, and Lars Ekström. Sandvik MedTech operates within contract manufacturing and medical materials development with a focus on the orthopedic and spine areas. In July this year, Sandvik completed the acquisition of Doncasters Medical Technologies, now known as Sandvik Medical Solutions. With this acquisition, Sandvik significantly strengthened both its expertise and its capacity in the rapidly growing medical technology application area. Sandvik Medical Solutions sits, along with the medical materials offering Sandvik Bioline, under the umbrella of the newly created Product Area Sandvik MedTech. He is currently Chairman of Orthovita, a spine / orthopedic surgical biomaterials company. He is also member of the Boards of Arthrocare Inc, and Lifecell Inc. Mr. Fitzgerald has served as President and CEO of Howmedica Inc, and as Vice President of Pfizer, Inc. Gunnar Walstam is founder and former CEO of Bactiguard AB, world leader in combating nosocomial infection (hospital acquired infection). Mr Walstam is currently an investor in and board member of early stage companies. He is also Chairman of Helperby Therapeutics Ltd. Lars Ekström is experienced in contract manufacturing, turnarounds and as CEO of international companies. Mr Ekström has been CEO of Dahlen International AB, Electrolux Klippan AB and Ravema AB. He has also been the Chairman of Synectics AB, a diagnostic medical equipment manufacturer acquired by Medtronic, Inc.
