All In’Tech Medical manufacturing facilities, including those in France, are now certified to this International Standard. 12/15 - Bradshaw Medical released the TLR series of torque limiting ratchets. These specialized instruments eliminate the need for physicians to switch between instruments by providing the capability to ratchet and secure bone screws into place while simultaneously applying torque at customer specified preset requirements. 12/12 - Vulcanium Metals Incorporated has been registered to AS9100:2004 through November 2009. This latest upgrade covers the distribution of commercially pure and alloy metals, specializing in titanium, to commercial markets. 12/8 - Medical Modeling has implemented Electron Beam Melting (EBM), a rapid manufacturing process that creates fully dense, freeform shaped metal parts directly from digitally designed CAD files. The flexible manufacturing process allows for direct production of complex designs in materials including titanium, titanium alloy and cobalt-chrome alloy. STAMA America announces the availability of its Model MC 726 MT, a unique five-axis, CNC milling/turning center designed for continuous production from bar stock of multiple and different parts, including high-precision medical devices. 12/4 - In’Tech Medical announces the appointment of Jerome Chiesa as Vice President of Manufacturing. David Nelms recently left In’Tech to pursue other interests, thus, William Vrabel will assume sales responsibilities for customers in the Memphis region. Millstone Medical Outsourcing launched a new version of the Enterprise Resource Planning system, a subscription-based online inventory tracking and management tool for medical device manufacturers. The system is provided to Millstone's customers who use the company's sterile packaging services, the loaner expedite program, the instrument recycling program or warehousing and distribution services. 11/20 - The Doncasters Group has announced two new technical appointments to its Medical Technologies division in the UK: Michael Leddington joins Doncasters Medical Technologies – European Casting Operations in Sheffield as Process Engineer, and Simon Hogg joins the New Product Development and Introduction team at Doncasters Medical Technologies – European Casting Operations in Sheffield. 11/14 - Paragon Medical commenced a 4-phase launch of standard surgical instrumentation targeting spinal and orthopaedic applications. This first phase will include a concentration on cervical and thoracolumbar fixation. Subsequent product families in this initial launch will include a complete complement of fixed handle products and ratchet drivers, as well as torque drivers. 11/7 - Leis Medical has been approved to ISO 13485:2003 certification for the production of precision machining for the Orthopaedic and Medical Industry. Leis Medical, founded in 1950, is a world class and worldwide provider of implants and instrumentation to the Orthopaedic and Spinal community. Along with ISO 13485, Leis Medical is FDA registered to manufacture class three devices. 11/1 - Bradshaw Medical expanded in-house manufacturing capabilities to include Multi-Axis CNC Swiss & Multi-Axis CNC Turning, and have also added on to their manufacturing operations, now totaling 10,000 square feet. Nanovis will commence operations in Indiana in 11/06. The company will commercialize a line of nanostructured surfaces, materials and medical devices that are designed to improve implant integration with bone, soft tissue, nerves, etc. Nanovis will base its administrative, engineering and manufacturing operations at Micropulse. Millstone provides services such as contract packaging, field inventory auditing, assistance for start-up medical device manufacturers, etc. 9/19 - MicroGroup acquired Bolt Industries’ Bethel and Blaine, Minnesota facilities. Precimed develops instruments for the orthopaedic implant market, while Carr manufactures sheet metal and thermo-formed plastics trays. 9/13 - Orchid Orthopedic Solutions acquired MACDEE, a privately held provider of precision machined and molded plastic products to the orthopaedic industry. 9/12 - Invibio launched ENDOLIGN™, a biocompatible carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic material for use in implantable load-bearing medical device applications requiring blood, bone or tissue contact of >30 days. ENDOLIGN is currently used in the development of applications such as spinal fixation devices. 9/8 - Bradshaw Medical expanded in-house manufacturing capabilities to include silicone handle molding of their proprietary Comfort-Grip line and CNC-Milling operations in their new 7,500 sq. foot facility. This new EDM work center technology will allow FMI Medical to drastically improve the production capacity and efficiency of the sinker EDM’s as well as reducing labor costs. This new expansion increases our capability in orthopedic component manufacturing as well as offering our customers very competitive pricing. To meet the growing demand for improved speed to market, MedicineLodge expanded its contract manufacturing services available to medical device companies Boston Centerless was named a 2006 Silver Medal recipient of the Northeast Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing. The award is presented to companies that achieve world-class manufacturing status through the implementation and practice of lean manufacturing principles. Boston Centerless is the first metal working contract manufacturer to win the Shingo Prize in North America. 6/28 - Oxford Performance Materials (OPM) closed a round of equity funding and will use the proceeds to expand the company's business development with a focus on biomedical markets.
