DONCASTERS REFOCUSES STAND ALONE MEDICAL DIVISION

The Doncasters Group, specialist manufacturers of highly engineered components, today announces the formation of Doncasters Medical Technologies, a dedicated medical device manufacturing service.

The mission of Doncasters Medical Technologies is to support the medical device industry in its ambition of restoring and maintaining patient’s desired quality of life. The new division is headed by Ken Birdsong, who joined Doncasters in 2003 from Smith and Nephew.

Doncasters’ CEO, Eric Lewis commented, “As I welcome Ken to the Group, I know that under his leadership, the newly refocused division will go from strength to strength.”

Lewis believes that this strategically important sector will be pivotal to the overall success of its global business, “Operating a ‘pure play’ medical division enables us to focus on the needs of this important customer sector and will develop our centres of manufacturing and service excellence.”

Explaining the rationale behind the relaunch, Ken said, “Doncasters already has a strong reputation as a Tier 1 supplier to OEM manufacturers servicing the orthopaedic market and is already regarded as the No 1 supplier of highly engineered, specialist, metal-on-metal hip components.

“We plan to build upon our existing capabilities and introduce new technological solutions. By operating an agile enterprise with operating units in both the US and Europe and by working ever more closely with our global customers we look forward to expanding our services and growing our business.”

Doncasters Medical Technologies has operating sites in North America (Doncasters PED Manufacturing), Mexico (Doncasters de Mexico) and Europe (Doncasters Centaur Precision and Doncasters Precision Forgings) and produces implants in cobalt chrome, titanium and stainless steel.
